I have KY wildlife question. If you can plz list any endangered species...?

26amp; tell what the animals were good for... Thanks everybodyHey everyone. I have KY wildlife question. If you can plz list any endangered species...?
Here is a list of endangered animals in KY:

http://www.endangeredspecie.com/states/

The removal or disappearance of one or several species may irreversibly damage the ecosystem and lead to its decline. The irreversible loss of biodiversity has a serious impact on the ability of remaining species, including humans, to survive. Humans depend on species diversity and healthy ecosystems to provide food, clean air and water, and fertile soil for agriculture. In addition, we benefit greatly from the many medicines and other products that biodiversity provides.

Wildlife Education Help?

I would like to do something with wildlife/nature or animals but I would also like to make in the $70,000 a year range. Is there anything that I could do to get what I wanted?

Thanks in advance!Wildlife Education Help?
You could be a zoologist or wildlife biologist. They actually don't get paid very much so you have to like what you're doing instead of wanting to get rich. Your pay range can vary it depends who you work and what kind of degree you get. Bachelors get paid the least, masters is in the middle, and phd is the highest. The average is about $50,000 a year. If you want to do it then you would have to take lots of science and math classes in high school. You would also need to have experience working with animals. Here is a list of some branch of zoology:

Arachnology (study of spiders)

Cetology (study of marine mammals)

Ornithology (study of birds)

Mammalogy (study of mammals)

Herpetology (study of reptiles)

Primatology (study of primate)

Ethology (study of insects)

Wildlife biologists works in the field studying animals.Your job varies in zoology. Here is another list of jobs you can do that works with nature/wildlife or animals.

Wildlife Rehabilitator

Park Ranger

Vet

Vet Technician

  • What is the significance of wildlife?

answer this ques in about 4-5 points............

plz do ans this to the pointWhat is the significance of wildlife?
my essays on my english final were on this topic.

without the wild humans will be trapped in a man-made world. our whole basis of life is based on the wilderness. it's where we started our journey as a species and we shouldn't leave it entirely. it creates peace in our minds and our lives. it is a place to escape to; to marvel at. you only realize how big the world is until you stop, and look at the natural world around you. it should be preserved for the next generations so they don't become corrupt by the modern world.

Is he competitive (re: becoming wildlife officer)?

My fiancee wants to become a Florida conservation/wildlife officer. He meets all minimum requirements, and has passed all the academic and physical tests. I'm curious - in your opinion - if he is competitive enough...

    -M.A. in psychology

    -B.A. in psychology

    -psychotherapist intern

    -former boy scout

-passion for outdoor activities, fishing, hiking, etc.

-But, NO prior law enforcement or military

Taking into account his pros and cons, what do you think? Is he competitive (re: becoming wildlife officer)?
Passion for outdoors is of primary concern

Secondary is his Degrees, ability to second guess liers.

No prior Law Enforcement or Military is not a problem like to mold the trainee the way the Department wants them to be.

I would ask now, whats your views on his asperation, do you want him in Law Enforcement, or think he is better suited as a Business type Psychotherapist?

How do v contribute in wildlife conservation?

v meanz....as an individualHow do v contribute in wildlife conservation?
I work as a wildlife biologist who studies and protects endangered species. We do this by protecting and sometimes purchasing native habitats, removing non-native plants from wildlife areas, doing some restoration, and by reporting people breaking wildlife laws. How do v contribute in wildlife conservation?
My state, IN, offers environment plates which donate to the state parks. The biggest force in this country that directly promotes wildlife conservation are the hunters and their associations.

Hunters have devoted more time, money, and effort into maintaining the balance of the ecosystem that have been disrupted than any other group in this country. They have done far more for endangered species than groups like PETA who spend more money on advertising and frivolous law suits than conservation.

Besides donating, much of the revenue that parks get comes from the fees that hunters are charged for there tags. In addition, the DNR carefully regulates the number of tags given out. If left unchecked a few species, missing there natural predators, would grossly overpopulate causing starvation and disease amongst them.

Look up your state's local DNR and I'm sure you will find some associations were most of your money goes directly toward wildlife.
I have worked as an environmental consultant for people who want to construct something that might damage the habitat. Sometimes, I find no great problem with the project and it proceeds as planned. Sometimes, the entire project is scuttled because it would damage the population of an imperiled species. Most of the time, I can make suggestions that will minimize damage to the environment without costing the developer an arm and a leg.
I'm actually a Forest Ranger that protects animals from poachers in the Northern Adirondacks in New York. So far I've caught 7 poachers in my career and by doing that i've saved a lot of wildlife from being killed and sold for their furs.

    The ';Fish and Wildlife Department';?

Why is ';fish'; not included in ';wildlife';? They are both paraphyletic groups, why are they separated in the legal system?

If it has something to do with the fish hatcheries, why do places that don't have hatcheries, like Arizona, still differentiating the two?The ';Fish and Wildlife Department';?
Bureaucrats aren't necessarily in command of the English language. They are the ones (among many others) who also would not consider insects animals, or tomatoes fruits. They just go along with common misconceptions, such as wildlife meaning warm-blooded.

Some states have a ';fish and game'; department, which isn't quite as redundant, although there are ';game fish';.

what political party do you think that this organization falls under ?? democratic/republican/independent? whyyy?? please help!Defenders of Wildlife organization?

Democrats are the ones pinned with the wildlife protection they are generally against oil drilling logging mining etc that's why all most all the Hollywood types are for the Dem's
I don't think it falls under any political party. It is an org. made up of lots of diff. people from diff. pol. parties. Prob. not alot of Repub.'s though - as they tend to be pro-gun and like to kill innocent things.

    Zoologist And Wildlife Biologist?

Would you be working in the same field?

Like lets say for example i major in being a zoologist and later change my mind in being a Wildlife Biologist would i have to Go to school all over again?

Or is it just completely differentZoologist And Wildlife Biologist?
You would take the basics in collage and that would apply to both wildlife biology and zoology. After that then you decide which one you want to do,now if you change your mind some places may not make you go back to school if you have enough experience in your first choice. But,some places might require a min of 4 years of wildlife biology or zoology and a min of 3 year having a paying job in that field. So really it just where you try to work at,you need to find the place that you like. Then call the zoo or someplace else and ask them if they have any requirements you have to have, and if so what are they. HOPE THIS HELPS~RACHEL

Will the U.S.-Mexico fence affect wildlife migations and movements?

    hmm

    never thought of that

don't knowWill the U.S.-Mexico fence affect wildlife migations and movements?
NoWill the U.S.-Mexico fence affect wildlife migations and movements?
Yes it will, any man-made object interferes with nature, but to what extent? Only time will tell...
Like, if we spent Millions to protect the wildlife issue, we would be ahead of the game. Illegals are a issue today for America and not debatable .... Mexico's problems need to stay in Mexico!
I wouldn't think so. Not many animals migrate across the rio grande
no.........don't you think the critters can tunnel under or fly over?
It will mean the end to the Monach butterfly for sure!!! At least it will stop them damn Americans illegally entering Mexico!
AS SOON AS MAN INTERFERES WITH THE ANIMALS CORRIDORS THE MIGRATIONS AND MOVEMENTS ARE EFFECTED. THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS ARE KILLED EACH YEAR BECAUSE ROADS ARE BUILT THOUGH THE ANIMALS TERRITORY-----WHAT DO YOU THINK A FENCE WOULD DO?

    Zoology, Ecology, Wildlife conservation?

I was wondering whats the difference between Zoology, Ecology and Wildlife Conservation? Also, what types of jobs can you get from each one of them? Thank you so muchZoology, Ecology, Wildlife conservation?
Zoology is the branch of biology that deals with animals and animal life, including the study of the structure, physiology, development, and classification of animals. - animal science, marine biology, conservation biology, wildlife management, animal behavior

Ecology is the subdiscipline of biology that concentrates on the relationships between organisms and their environments; it is also called environmental biology. Ecology is concerned with patterns of distribution (where organisms occur) and with patterns of abundance (how many organisms occur) in space and time. - marine ecology, research scientist, laboratory technician, underwater filmmaker

Wildlife conservation - regulation of wild animals and plants in such a way as to provide for their continuance. Efforts are aimed at preventing the depletion of present populations and ensuring the continued existence of the habitats targeted species need to survive. Techniques involve establishment of sanctuaries and controls on hunting, use of land, importation of exotic species, pollution, and use of pesticides. - marine conservationists, volunteer on game reserve, habitat technician, field technician, wildlife biologist

Laws prohibiting harm or possession of certain species unless you have a permit. Breeding or incubating eggs of a species so the young can be released into an appropriate habitat. What is wildlife conservation?
The wild life conservation aims to save wildlife and wild lands through careful science, international conservation, education, and the management of the world's largest system of Urban wild life parks. These activities change attitude towards nature and helps people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable interaction on both a local and a global scale. What is wildlife conservation?

FUTURE OF WILDLIFE IN INDIA ,NEPAL.BANGLADESH AND PAKISTAN ?

Poorvi178, unless very drastic measures are taken -- and NOW, I fear that future of wildlife in Indian subcontinent -- and elsewhere in the region, faces an extremely grim outcome. More to the point, as things are with poaching and destruction of these animals' habitat, IS THERE a future ? I feel that human greed has a lot to answer for. I hope and pray that I am wrong and that this beautiful wildlife survives......

forever and ever !FUTURE OF WILDLIFE IN INDIA ,NEPAL.BANGLADESH AND PAKISTAN ?

    Managing Wildlife Resources?

What are some reasons for managing wildlife resources?Managing Wildlife Resources?
    Wildlife management:

%26gt; aims to halt the loss in the earths biodiversity.

%26gt; preservation and improvement of habitats.

%26gt; protecting species, and their ecosystems from excessive rates of extinction.

%26gt; balancing the needs of wildlife with the needs of people.

%26gt; prevent the negative affect on the capabilities to sustain the well-being of human society.

%26gt; solve/ lessen the problem about climate change.

%26gt; for our ecosystem to be balanced.

---- unbalance ecosystem and wild life resources will lead to poverty, mass starvation, loss of economy, extinction of human kind and the distruction of our planet..Managing Wildlife Resources?
Well one is so the wildlife doesn't die out. And because people need to wake up and realize we are being selfish and need to help our wildlife.
Crop and lawn damage are the most common ones.

In agriculture areas, the damage from deer can total in millions.
because you have interest in animals and how they live an adapt to their environment !!!

When the teacher finds 15 out of 100 tagged giraffes, it indicates that 15% of the population have been tagged. Therefore, to find the whole population, divide the number of tagged giraffes by the proportion of tagged giraffes (divide 60 by 15%). The answer is 400 giraffes.

As long as the world keeps doing what it is doing will the wildlife be like in the year 2026?

what will animals be like in the future of 2026As long as the world keeps doing what it is doing will the wildlife be like in the year 2026?
I kinda thought that most of the world is much more aware of conservation and endangered species than it was 35 years ago. So, projecting that line into the future, I'd say that most animals will be doing okay.

Most environmentalists think that properity is the enemy of wildlife. No, most endangered species are endangered due to povery and warfare. It takes a measure of wealth to set aside areas and preseve habitat and resist the urge to kill animals for food and money. As long as the world keeps doing what it is doing will the wildlife be like in the year 2026?
    no
After 2026 the animal maybe will like a giant!

Most parks in the United States are owned by the National Park Service, but the most public land in the United States is held in trust by the Bureau of Land Management. While these are not 'parks' they hold much more as far as animals and vegetation than the 'parks' do.

Do you support fair treatment of wildlife? Watch this please and tell us what you think.?

https://secure.defenders.org/site/Donati鈥?/a>Do you support fair treatment of wildlife? Watch this please and tell us what you think.?
    HELL YEAH!!

I support the fair treatment of wildlife. I find it hard when people say they have to hunt to keep the population under control. I find that to be bull, JUST by the fact the animals WERE doing just fine until we moved around and OVER--populated ourselves that we had to cut down the popuation to fit the SmAlL forests or land that we give them because we find our need to build homes that find themselves sitting on the market collecting dust and whatever else to make it look old and haunted.

ROFE is a perfect example of what we have done to mess up nature beyond repair. Yes I see that we need to hunt (BUT AERIAL HUNTING that is bull we do not need to hunt that way.

    THEN I HEAR THIS STATEMENT:

    ';They do hunting to feed themselves then how we obtain I meat.';

    Again wrong.

The aerial shows the facts and the site support that do not hunt to feed themselves it specifically states ';hunting and for each foreleg $150 to get paid hunting. That is a clear sign that we do not hunt that much anymore and like he said and others that is for food and to keep the poulation down.

Do guys even realize why now that we HAVE to have hunts on the prey population? ITS because we hunted their predators to extinction or the brink of extinction. The Florida cougar is a classic example of that very fact we have to hunt its prey to keep the pop in check so it does not get out of hand. The red wolf is endangered also because we hunted to the brink of extinction. The grey wolf was on the news a few days ago, somewhere between Arizona and New Mexico the farmers do not want the wolf and kill it just cause it did not know what animal it was ';not suppose'; to touch. The land there is supposedly suppose to hold a maximum amount of 250 wolves but the are only 50. cause they hold hunts to KEEP THEM DOWN to FFAARR!!

SEE this is the very reason I support they need to be treated fairly and we need to voice their silent voice so they can be heard, they need our help.I see it both sides to this and know why we need hunts BUT WE SHOULD STOP HUNTING THE PREDATORS SO THEY CAN HHHEEELLLLPPPP us keep the animals such a deer, bunnies, and other prey animals in check. BUT

this is what I am probably going to get a reply to my answer saying how wrong I am WHEN infact I supported my opinion with the FACTS

very clear facts.Do you support fair treatment of wildlife? Watch this please and tell us what you think.?
I think your blatant promotion of this fund raiser is totally unacceptable as a question on Y/A.

As far as fair treatment of wildlife I would rather see them hunted and harvested than see them starve. As far as wolves and bears are concerned hunting to control the population is better than having the population so high that they decimate all the other wild life.

In our area we can no longer use leg hold traps or an open season to control coyotes. As a result the coyote population is way to high. The coyotes prey on the newborn deer and antelope. When the does do not raise a young they get too fat to rebreed and exist as barren animals that diminish the food supply and do not replenish the species. We no longer have a vibrant population of either game animals or predators due to the stupidity of putting this issue up to an election by unknowing people.
Yes I support the fair treatment of wildlife. I do not believe that the wolf kill in Alaska is ethical or justifiable and considering the fact that I was raised there I have a unique opinion on the matter. That said the political rhetoric in that ad is no way to further a good cause. I invite you to visit a video that will show you the true horror of animal cruelty

Http://www.veg-tv.info/earthlings. Be forewarned this video is Graphic and very disturbing but if you're going to fight for animal rights you need to know what your fighting against.

i support fair treatment of animals and man is on top and gets to decide what is fair. Intelligent man, not groups of stupid people.

The wolves are killing other animals to a Point where that animal is in danger of becoming extinct. There is no Predator to keep wolves from destroying the eco system, so man, the more intelligent one must step in.
Its a bit bizarre to think a predator population is going to grow out of control if we don't kill off their numbers. There are only going to be so many predators for so many prey species. Killing off the predators is only going to cause an imbalance of species that kill of the old, sick, and the weak. I don't know of any hunters that go after sick moose or caribou, which makes me wonder how we effect the breeding stock by taking out healthy game.

What Palin has done is beyond barbaric and threatens wolf populations, for the sake of game hunting.

    Wildlife Biology major?

I know I want to work with animals. My question is would it be more beneficial to get a BS in a more general, related subject and then go on to grad school for wildlife biology? Or just go straight into it?Wildlife Biology major?
I suggest you look online at catalogues for graduate schools that offer degrees in wildlife biology. Note what their requirements are for the degree and for admittance. If you don't meet those admission requirements, you are going to have to take them as a graduate student (if they accept you), adding more pressure on your academic life.

Look at schools that offer undergraduate wildlife biology degrees.... like Humboldt State University in California,

    http://www.humboldt.edu/~wildlife/

and note what their degree involves. Does your ';general'; degree idea have all the required courses that Humboldt would make their majors take? I'm specifically looking at chemistry, physics, and math. What type of math courses do they expect? Any statistics courses? Can you do those types of courses in your ';general'; subject?

My own feeling is that you should specialize as soon as possible. Start to do undergraduate research leading to publishable results. Get into the laboratory of the wildlife biologist on the faculty. Join now professional organizations involved with wildlife biology. What you want to do is to start adding to your resume so your will be marketable when you finish your degrees.Wildlife Biology major?
DrJ always gives good advice but I have to disagree with him on this one. I would major in zoology and take your electives in wildlife biology. That way, if you change your mind part-way through, most of your coursework will still be applicable to your major. By the time you get to grad school, you should be certain of what you want to do.

There is an exception. When I went to Cornell, the Zoology Department was in the School of Arts and Sciences (very expensive). Vertebrate Zoology was in the Conservation Department of the Ag School (along with Wildlife Conservation and Fishery Biology). The Ag School was tuition-free for NY State residents. Guess which I chose.

Which was funded first wwf(wildlife fund) or WWF(wrestling)?

my dad says wrestling but how could wwe been sued if they came firstWhich was funded first wwf(wildlife fund) or WWF(wrestling)?
In 2000, the World Wide Fund for Nature (also WWF), an environmental organization, sued the World Wrestling Federation. The Law Lords agreed that Titan Sports had violated a 1994 agreement which had limited the permissible use of the WWF initials overseas, particularly in merchandising. Both companies used the initials since March 1979. On May 5, 2002, the company quietly changed all references on its website from ';WWF'; to ';WWE';, while switching the URL from WWF.com to WWE.com. The next day, a press release announced the official name change from World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., or WWE, and the change was publicized later that day during a telecast of Monday Night Raw, which emanated from the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut. For a short time, WWE used the slogan ';Get The 'F' Out.'; The company had also been ordered by the Lords to stop using the old WWF Attitude logo on any of its properties and to censor all past references to WWF, as they no longer owned the trademark to the initials WWF in 'specified circumstances'. Despite litigation, WWE is still permitted use of the original WWF logo, which was used from 1984 through 1997, as well as the ';New WWF Generation'; logo, which was used from 1994 through 1998. Furthermore, the company may still make use of the full ';World Wrestling Federation'; and ';World Wrestling Federation Entertainment'; names without consequence.Which was funded first wwf(wildlife fund) or WWF(wrestling)?
The WWF was first known as the WWWF which was founded in 1952, but didn't change there name until 1980 when Vince McMahon founded Titan Sports, Inc. and in 1982 purchased Capitol Wrestling Corporation from his father. The elder McMahon had long since established the northeastern territory as one of the most vibrant members of the NWA. He had long since recognized that professional wrestling was more about entertainment than actual sport. Against his father's wishes, McMahon began an expansion process that fundamentally changed the sport.

Hence The World Wildlife Fund was founded in 1961 with the WWF acronym first. So after all of my explaination, the World Wildlife Fund WAS FIRST funded by the WWF acronym.
I've looked that up and it says on WWE HISTORY that it was formed in 1953 as Capitol Wrestling Corporation. It says for the World wildlife Fund that it was formed in 1961. That isn't right at all. Bring back the F.
It was originally wildlife fund, but wwf got popular so they wanted there name back, but it was wild life fund before wrestling
The wildlife fun has been around for about 100 years.
    it was wwf (wildlife fund)

    Wildlife: plants and animals?

What's the study of wildlife including all of living organisms (plants, animals, fungi, etc.) present living and extinct.Wildlife: plants and animals?
The scientific study of plants is called botany; the study of their relationship to their environment and of their distribution is plant ecology. The cultivation of plants for food and for decoration is horticulture.

Zoology is the study of animals and involves research in many aspects of animal life such as behavior, diet, evolution, classification, and distribution.

The study of bacteria is known as bacteriology, a branch of microbiology.

Mycology is the study of fungi. At various points throughout history, fungi have been considered to be either plants or animals. It was finally concluded that fungi are neither plants nor animals, but are a distinct group. Fungi are now considered one of the five kingdoms into which all living organisms are classified.Wildlife: plants and animals?
Ecology is the the first thing that comes to my mind.

    Wildlife survey?

I am conducting a survey for a wildlife conservation group in my area.

Please tell me if you have joined or would consider joining the following groups, if so, or if not why not.

    Thank you

    WWF

    WSPAWildlife survey?
I think both the WWF and WSPA do a grand job, and I would consider joining the WWF.

Personally though I am a member of the local Wildlife Trust, and while having a global perspective is good I believe that roots level is equally if not more important (i.e. think global, act local).

How about other groups such as the RSPB, buglife, Marine Conservation Society or RSPCA etc.Wildlife survey?
No, absolutely not. My personal experience with any wildlife related group has been nothing but negative. They start with good ideas and then muck them up with politics, personal agendas and the like. I also suspect that large groups like the ones mentioned above have high overheads, so donations tend to get spent on admin and propaganda rather than going where they are needed the most. I prefer to do my own bit for wildlife in my own community, and then I see the results first hand. Also, there was an ad campaign here by WSPA a few years back. The add actually depicted a practice that was outlawed many years ago, but the ad led you to believe it was a widespread ongoing problem. That, to me, is a bit less than honest, and I felt they just used shocking (old) footage to get a gut reaction from people.
Yes I would join both if I had the money. I'm a vegetarian and am all for animal rights. My family has taken in 6 stray cats in my life, one abused dog and adopted a cat and dog from a local animal shelter long ago. Personally, I give a lot of money to programs that protect the manatees in Florida. I've sponsors two manatees in the past. Also, I sponsored a siberian tiger at animal sanctuary in the midwest in the United States. Both manatees and tigers are endangered and growing closer to extinction due to human harm and depletion of their natural environments. I also used give money to North Shore Animal League, a nationally known domestic animal shelter that is constantly raising awareness of animal abuse, neglect, and animal homelessness. Its a sacred place to me because I was born twenty minutes from the shelter.
I don't know if i am in your area ..

Yes i would join these groups .providing it is conducted in a orderly manner .

I am most passionate about wildlife conservation ..

i have been considering joining a conservation group for some time now .but cant find the right one who cares 100% in conservation of wildlife ..

a more committed groups are out there ..lol
    i have been a member.
i would like to know moe about both, what they do and how i will help as a member, i never hear anything about either so im not that sure what they do
I'm in the states but am aware of WWF's work. I haven't heard of WSPA, so I'm not sure as to whether I would join it or not.

I'm also a broke college student so that really limits what I can/would financially support right now.

I would like to see more interactive programs with WWF focused for college students out here in the US. Perhaps scholarships, some type of recognition or campus credits awarded to students who have the highest interactivity rates in the country.

I'd also like to see more things available in campus book stores (stickers/shirts) as well.

  • Wildlife rehabilitators?

what is the salary? is it only volunteer? once licensed and what ever else you need, what types of places can you go look for employment? would a certificate in wildlife forestry and natural resources help me or should i be looking for a different type of certificate to help me? what do employers looking for wildlife rehabbers generally want to see?Wildlife rehabilitators?
Here are two excellent resources for you:

    http://www.ewildagain.org/pdf/RecBooklet鈥?/a>

    http://www.owra.org/becoming.htm

The second website gives the following info:

';For people wanting to get into a paying position in rehabilitation, a college degree in biology or ecology is highly recommended. The curriculum should include ornithology, mammalogy, animal behavior, ecology, and related wildlife and environmental subjects. Wildlife rehabilitators include veterinarians, veterinary technicians, biologists, educators, and people from other diverse backgrounds. Although a college degree is not required to become a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, a biology-related degree has several advantages:

    1) provides knowledge essential for quality hands-on animal care;

    2) develops an understanding of wildlife as they relate to humans and the environment;

    3) gives you an edge in this increasingly competitive field.';

    Also, from the same site: ';Compensation ranges from stipend only to as much as $30,000 per year, plus benefits. Upper level positions usually require experience and expertise in a specific area such as wildlife medicine or management of a large rehabilitation program. Entry level and part-time jobs may pay minimum wage, but there are usually opportunities for advancement. Most people who work in wildlife rehabilitation are volunteers and do not get paid. Internships may or may not have stipends.';

This site should also answer your other questions, regarding employers' need, and places of employment.Wildlife rehabilitators?
One thing about wildlife rehabilitation is that it is for the love of the animals not the size of the paycheck. lol Contact the IWRC(International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council) or the NWRA(National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association) and inquire about job opportunities at rehab centers. With a forestry certificate they would start you as a volunteer to learn about animal care or if you are well versed in wildlife management or habitat they would employ you as an educator or project coordinator. Most states require you to study and take an exam to become licensed to rehabilitate wildlife or you could apprentice under a falconer and learn falconry skills to undertake raptor programs.

Alot of medical hands on knowledge is required to actually rehab wild animals as well as their biology, ecology and management. Good luck!

Should we nuke the Middle East and turn it into a wildlife sanctury?

After all...are there any worthy people living there...muslims scare the sh1te out of me..with their bombs and stuff....get rid of the lot of them..Should we nuke the Middle East and turn it into a wildlife sanctury?
nuke the middle east, you dont even know how to fart!

so now we know you have **** in your pantsShould we nuke the Middle East and turn it into a wildlife sanctury?
well, i do trust wild animals more.... and at least, they readily recognizable as such.

no, no, no, you mustn't get me off on this tangent.

not all muslims are fanatics or, members of what i refer to as the hate filled and angry cults that exist over there and not all deserve to die. i know a few muslims that i actually like very much and their families do not deserve to be nuked.

.......but it was a nice thought until i thought about it.....
    what an ignorant..!

im a muslim and im from the middle east ..and in my country we don't have any problem like you think with bombs and stuff like that...!!!

hope everything is clear to you ...!

    peace

    anno
We can win by bombs but we then do not know how tocontrol them as they have a phd in war fare as that is all they know
If you nuke them no wild life will raise there, pal. Includind wild arabs.
no, killing of innocent people is never a answer. the majority of Muslims are good and decent people
no. besides if we nuke them we cant live there because of the radioactivity.
30,000 Americans killed each year by guns on American soil by other American citizens

1,000 Americans killed each year in Iraq after your country invaded Iraq.

I think you should be more scared of your next door neighbor than a nation that was minding its own business and had never killed one American until your country invaded. But hey you cant help being a media stereotype, propaganda believing sheep now can you? You would have to have a brain for that!

P.S. that 30,000 is just by guns alone, not stabbings, beatings, arson, poisoning etc etc you get the picture don't you?
don't forget Israel is over there too........it has already had its share of bombs./
If you nuke it, then it won't be livable. How do you propose making a wildlife sanctuary out of it?
if u r soo confident ,y dont u stand in the middle of street and say that, and lets see if u got balls,or a pussy ,*********
Inciting genocide as you have done ought to land you in jail! The reason it probably won't is you have no power to carry it out.

    Tom
There's a few thousand fundamentalist extremists running around with puny chemical explosives and they ';scare the sh1t'; out of you, so you think the solution is total genocide, using weapons of mass destruction.

Where did you learn your morals, the Old Testament? What you're contemplating would be the worst crime against humanity ever committed. So what are you? Merely stupid, or the personification of unmitigated evil?
Well what an ingenious idea. Nuke an entire region, then make it a wildlife sanctuary. But...wait a minute. If you nuke it, doesn't that mean that there will be no wildlife left?

And if we really scare the doo out of you, lol, well then I think ur very very easily scared.

Then that makes me think of another thing. Do you think that by nuking the Middle East, you'll rid the world of Muslims? I suppose you didn't know that Arabs make up only 12% of the world's Muslim population, so you might have to nuke a few more countries along the way. Aside from that, if it's only the Muslims you're afraid of, well then you'll be nuking Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, and members from just about every other religion as well. But I suppose you're willing to sacrifice them, being so terrified of us and all.

    Pleasant evening! ;-)
That is a terrible thing to say....although a radioactive mutant wildlife reserve would be interesting.
You would kill millions of innocents to get rid of a small militant section of the population? How human of you.

Who comes next? The Chinese? The Japanese? The former Soviet Union? You can't just bomb people because they scare you. What are you, five years old?
You are so crazy and surely did not think this out before asking the question. After all, what kind of wildlife would live there...
why not just, you know, stop invading their coutries and killing thier people?
You scare the crap out of me, should we bomb you?
I don't think God wants us to nuke people.
oh yes a nuclear waste site would be a wonderful wild life sanctuary.
What a totally ridiculous question. I sure hope that you aren't serious, because if you are, YOU scare the sh*t out of ME.

Why would you want to annihilate a whole area of the Earth and contaminate it forever, killing millions of good, honest, innocent people.

I won't even get into the wildlife sanctuary bit.
Actually the only country in the Middle East with nukes is Israel. That is a Jewish country.

Are you a child, or are you an uneducated adult?

    .
well let see, would you want your country to be nuked and turned into a wildlife sanctuary, my guess is you wouldnt want that. so do unto others what you would want done unto you.
If you nuke the middle east, the Russians will fire 28,000 nukes at the united states, and europe. China will do likewise. The west will retaliate, untill there is no wildlife left upon the earth that require santuary on account of them all being atomized or poisened.

Now them politicians know you don't know about the politics of nukes, and they also are counting on you being ignorant about muslims. The politician knows that anything you are ignorant about, they can use as leverage to stir up fear within the populace. They use that fear to justify their government aggressive business strategy that envolves securing oil supply by insisting on other countries giving it to the US, by force, and economic bribery (otherwise called persuasion, by threat of sanction).

There is only one way for fear to be resolved, and that is to go out of your way to meet and engage in social conversation with some muslims. Otherwise, you and others like you will continue to be decieved by those whom seek to utilize your lack of familiarity of other cultures and societies, for their own political purposes.
If we bomb them, other countries will bomb us... It'll be a big bomb-fest, and nothing will be left but the roaches.
Should we nuke the countries of anyone out of fear born from misinformation?
and who are you to judge millions of people? do you really think no one worth living in the middle east? i don't think you are a human.
    You are ignorant.
No, no. The answer lies in many, many, MANY more Gitmos to facilitate them and their radical ways.
well, at least the animals would behave...

Does the change in weather from hot to cold affect the wildlife that are about earlier due to the hot weather?

When warm/hot weather occurs earlier than usual this can trigger some animals to come out of hibernation earlier than normal and also trigger plants to begin to flowering early, etc.

This can and does cause major problems for wildlife.

Animals, plants and insects habitually time their natural breeding cycles, periods of hibernation, migration, flowering, etc according to specific weather seasons at specific times of the year when they expect their natural food sources (or in the case of plants, pollinators %26amp; seed dispersers) to be available. This is something that has been learnt by wildlife over thousands and thousands of years. Previously, wildlife had time to adapt to any changes in climate that occurred in the past because these changes were generally much slower and took place over a much longer period of time. The problems being encountered by wildlife nowadays is that changes in climate are happening too quickly and unpredictably. Birds may migrate early and find no food available at their destination; animals may come of hibernation during an early warm spell and use up vital energy reserves only to find that their expected food is not available; plants may start to flower early, again using up vital stores of energy which are not then available later when spring or summer really does arrive.

In some places normal expected 'spring' is hardly happening at all, whilst elsewhere there might a second 'spring' when in fact autumn was expected. This already occurs in the Mediterranean - such weather has now also been recorded in parts of the UK for example. Elsewhere, winter occasionally seems to leap directly into summer, or is unusually cold or mild. It is the extreme and unpredicatable nature of the 'seasons' or weather that we are experiencing nowadays that appears to be causing so many problems.Does the change in weather from hot to cold affect the wildlife that are about earlier due to the hot weather?
Do you mean because April was really hot and now it's back to normal? If so, I would early expect insects have had a bit of a hard time but I suspect the plants etc are able to cope. By summertime we will know for certain...Does the change in weather from hot to cold affect the wildlife that are about earlier due to the hot weather?
Yes it really does ,go to any website regarding the enviroment and wildlife and weep
Of course, as the weather cool bears prepare to hibernate for the winter. Birds leave northern climes for the south returning when winter is over. Some animals coats become thicker to prepare them for the cold. Just to name a few.
Yes, almost any change in the environment will effect the way animals behave.

However, it’s important to point out that animal behaviours such as hibernation and migration are actually desperate attempts to survive harsh winters. Given half a chance, animals would rather not have to do it.

So when they hear that, due to global warming, animals are not hibernating (for example), some people start saying something along the lines of “See! Animals can’t hibernate any more, because of global warming. Isn’t it terrible?!” Whereas, if you could talk to the animals themselves, they’d be saying “Isn’t global warming great?! I don’t have to hibernate through the winter any more!”

Now, to answer your question more specifically…

I *think* you’re asking “Does the onset of winter have any effect on animals that hibernate and, due to global warming, emerged from hibernation earlier in the year than normal?”

If that’s your question, then the answer would have to be that these animals are better off. During the period that these animals are active, they have certain things that they need to do, the most important of which are; eating to regain the fat reserves they lost while hibernating through the winter, mating and raising their young, and then fattening themselves and their young ready for the next hibernation. The more time that they have to do this (and the shorter the period of hibernation that they need to recover from/prepare for) the better.

Thus, the answer to your question is; yes, it makes their lives *much* easier.
    In short: yes.

    Wildlife Biology or Zoology?

I'm trying to get some advice on which of these degrees to pair with a photography degree. Any suggestions? Wildlife Biology or Zoology?
Your easiest choice is to get the zoology degree. More people will hire you for a job in wildlife if you have a degree in zoology than the reverse.Wildlife Biology or Zoology?
They both seem the same to me.If you choose wildlife biologist then you get to work with wild animals and take pictures of them.If you are zoologist you can work in a lab, a classroom as a teacher, a zoo, or in the field.

Can you see any wildlife from where you are sitting now?

I have a pair of red and blue parrots in the tree outside eating berries like they're chocolate. Can you see any wildlife from where you are sitting now?
In my mind garden. I have Major Mitchell cockatoos. Scarlet Macaws. Superb Blue Wrens and an as yet unidentified grey bird that swears prodigiously. It must have lived behind

a hotel as it also imitates a toilet flushing.

I think I need a couple of aspirin. Rose P.Can you see any wildlife from where you are sitting now?
No I don't see any wildlife where I am sitting now.
Lucky you ;) We don't get too many parrots at our house. I can't see any at the moment, but we mostly get magpies and galahs here (we are in Australia).
only a few birds on the lawn
I work at a mental institution in the midst of a forest preserve, so I consider all of it wildlife. But yeah, there are the furry and winged kind outside the windows.
    Some birds!!!
I have 200 wild ducks waddling around my yard and two vultures sitting in the tree trying to keep warm due to this unbelievable snow were having here in central Texas.
Yeah, there's a rabbit sitting outside my window eating my clover.
    No,none.

Not really just a couple of birds --crows flying around and of course the people in the apartment across the street--but we'll talk about them another time :)
Only if one of the cats comes into view. Otherwise, an occasional bird.
Yes, I see wildlife all around me since I reside near a forest. Honestly, I was driving from a friend's house the other day (we live in a rural community) I hit a deer at midnight with my SUV. :-)
Yeah I can see a big Hippo wearing bermuda shorts and having a Big Mac and a Strawberry Shake. (ooops sorry its just my neighbour having his lunch).

    My apologies !

Take Care and God Bless !
Well if I had ex-ray vision I could see all kinds of little creatures. There's Coyotes, foxes, ground squirrels, tree squirrels, owls, quail, pheasant, possums and Racoons. A few Hawks and all manner of bird. A lot of these are out at night and I have seen them then.

    Can gasoline fumes affect wildlife?

Yes. Gas cans account for about 70 tons per day (TPD) of smog-forming pollution. That's equal to emissions from about 800,000 cars. Air emissions from a single portable gas can appear to be small, but the total number of such containers in use means they contribute significantly to smog-forming emissions in several ways, including: Vapors escaping through walls in gas cans made from plastic; Escaping fumes while fuel is being dispensed; Spillage and/or over-filling as fuel is poured into equipment; Spillage and evaporation through secondary vent holes; and Evaporation through inadequately capped spouts. Can gasoline fumes affect wildlife?
All wild life is life! So ask yourself, do gas fumes affect you and the rest of the human population? The answer is yes... SO without all the psycho babble (that would still give you the same answer) YES! Everything affects everything... and on a personal note, I too think we need to fix our bad habbits before we destroy this beautiful Earth we've been blessed with. Can gasoline fumes affect wildlife?
The answer to this question is yes. Gasoline constitutes one of the criteria air pollutants known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These VOCs are a primary pollutant that react with sunlight in the atmosphere to produce ground level ozone. Ground level ozone is very bad for all organisms.
Yes. The fumes have the small, tiny, minisucle little drops of gas and such attached to it. Much like second hand smoke it gets in the lungs of animals (and people) and have a small effect on them. Over time, constant breathing of fumes can mess them up.

Ideas for summer school?? Our theme is ';Wild about Wildlife';...?

It is my first year teaching summer school and I am trying to come up with my lesson plans. Our theme is wildlife, but I would like to break each of the 4 weeks into a theme regarding wildlife. Any ideas/websites would be helpful!! Thanks!!Ideas for summer school?? Our theme is ';Wild about Wildlife';...?
    Week 1African animals

    Week 2 Australian animals

    Week 3 American Animals

    Week 4 Ocean animals

( any order)... also Arctic or Antarctic animals, wetlands

The sites below have lots of lesson plans and ideas. Project Wild ( and the wetlands class) has lots of FREE materials. Check with your local State Forest, National Forest, BLM office etc. for materials and speakers. For example, our Forest office donated lots of aerial maps of our states. Great to use for map class, but then we turned them over and used to make our own posters. Our state department of wildlife has lots of movies to lend and a speaker bureau. The Hide Barrel is very popular. The speaker brings hides, claws, feathers etc. from a variety of animals. Kids love to dissect owl pellets, watch and feed class pets etc. Making plaster casts of animal tracks at the river walk is fun. A field trip to an animal sanctuary or zoo might be appropriate. See if you can get a behind the scenes tour. Our kids were thrilled to be able to actually feed the wolves. For snacks, animal crackers are easy. Or, one favorite was making jello in those little cups, then inserting washed rubber or plastic animals ( insects, worms, dinosaurs etc.) into the jello. The kids were delighted!

Recommendation: Cram in lots of learning, don't be afraid to use big words, have something they can make and take home. Have short frequent reviews.

    Jobs caring for wildlife?

I have little experience with wildlife but I would really like to work with wildlife in the future. Mainly wildlife rehabilitation. Is there any way I can volunteer even though I don't have experience? Jobs caring for wildlife?
All depending on where you live. Most areas there are wildlife rescue groups that you can join. They have specialist training courses on rescue and rehabilitation for different species. I am a wildlife rescuer and rehabilitator in Australia and I simply joined my local area group and then underwent training.

Hope this helpsJobs caring for wildlife?

The main threat to biodiversity is the ever increasing human population. Humans clear land for agriculture, roads, and cities. The middle US has lost almost all of it's native prairie land in favor of agriculture. A native prairie could support more than 300 species of plants, whereas a farm supports only one species (usually corn). Habitat loss goes along with this transformation of land. We are losing habitat for birds, amphibians, mammals, insects, and other animals.

Our cities pollute a lot. This pollution can runoff directly into the soils and water, or it can volatilize (turn to gas) and come down in rain (acid rain and nitrogen deposition). Many pollutants are synthetic chemicals that can kill animals and plants or influence their behavior. Some pollutants are nutrients and, although nutrients may be good for certain plants, they are generally bad for the ecosystem as a whole. A massive amount of nutrients added to an ecosystem will dramatic change how that ecosystem functions and will affect all the organisms living there.

One solution is to set aside land for conservation and actively restore ecosystems that have been degraded.

I need a nice small, relatively cheap college or university with a good forestry or wildlife biology program!?

It would help if we knew what state you were in. Any program at a state university is going to be less expensive for a resident of that state. You could either pick a school in the state you already live in, or you could move to the state of the school you want to go to and take the steps necessary to become a resident. This usually means you have to be able to prove that you have been residing in the state for one year and one day by the start of the academic semester/trimester/quarter that you want to start in. The easiest steps to get there are: get your drivers license, register your car, get a utility bill n your name that IS NOT sent to a P.O. Box, etc....... But every state is a little different, and this won't work for private institutions.

So as far as the cost of university your best bet is a state college or university.

    No,none.
    just my drunk neighbor

Not at the moment there was a moose in my backyard this morning tho

I see a tuft of hair a little above the pointed ears ..

    .. yet I see no tell-tale whiskers ..

    OH MY GAWD!

  • Can gasoline fumes affect wildlife?

What is the wildlife of massachusetts?

It is the same as CT. There are deer, skunks, snakes, raccoons, opossums, bears, coyotes, fisher cats, fox, and even some Moose!

All types of birds! From wild turkeys to humming birds, to hawks and even some eagles!

Who opened up wildlife refuges for hunting?

Actually, wildlife refuges were created FOR hunting! and they are mostly paid for by fees on hunting gear and by fees from hunting licenses.

But if you just want to go there for birdwatching, that's OK. Just be nice to the guys who paid for it.

    All type of wildlife?

hi, i like all type of wildlife, and i am especially interested in owls! i was wondering how you can attract them to your backyard, and also deer, and hawks, birds of prey basically. I live in Massachusetts. Also, screech owls, i want to attract them in alsoAll type of wildlife?
Depending on how much property you have...

Since these are all birds of prey, try creating habitat for rodents such as a brush pile. You could also place a deer feeder. The corn from the feeder would also attract squirrels (food for birds of prey) and other wildlife. Another suggestion for deer, try planting good grass (alfalfa, fescue, etc.) or other plants/flowers they might enjoy eating.

You may be able to buy or build a nesting box for owls.

Here in Missouri, our Conservation Dept. is a great help for projects like this. Try looking up your state's Conservation Department's web site. They may have some suggestions and guidelines or a list books on the subject. All type of wildlife?
If you can get rodents to come to your property, the birds of prey should follow. Of course, that creates a whole new set of problems.

Yes. Wildlife monitors have proposed that in order to sustain the crab population of the waters off any given beach, the Reciprocal Clause (as you describe above) should come into force by June 2009. It appears that owners of fishing fleets maintained by seafood restaurants specialising in crabs are just itching to see this implemented and are combing the proposal for statistical evidence of harvesting quotas benefiting from the new crab claws, er, clause.

Not sure where you are from but in Australia you have to contact your local government department who deals with the environment and conservation.

From there they offer courses for those people wanting to become wildlife carers.

It is illegal to care for wildlife in australia without registered with a government department. (not sure about where you are).

Your best bet is to start volunteering at your local wildlife shelter. By gaining experience it puts you in a better position to do homecare.

Be advised though, an officer will come out to your home to assess you situation, before allowing you to become a wildlife rehabilitator.

Again, Im talking about rules in Australia, but best to contact your local department in your area.

    Goodluck

Im FROM africa, an di LOVED the wildlife, used to go out to the valleys every single year since i was 5, my dad was a game ranger. Its awesome, and something everyone would appreciate!!Anyone been in Kenya and loved its wildlife?
Actually I leave there and its just amazing. There are lots and lots of wildlife down here ranging from Elephants to the tall Giraffes and many more wild animals including birds. You can also meet the gazelle once adopted by a lion and also the tortoise named 'mzee' which had a hippo as the best friend. Just come and see all these for yourselfAnyone been in Kenya and loved its wildlife?
Kenya is fine for wild life viewing, however, the safari operators are scoundrels and will short change you. They know you are flying out on a scheduled flight and do not have the time to pursue the problem.

Kenya sells itself. Denno said it correct. To the point. What would you like to see, the great migration of wildebeests or the mating ritual of the lions? Or are you interested in the African elephants (which are the most gigantic in the world)? Maybe you wanna take a ride on the back of an ostrich!
They are so many different types
